A son of John T. and Ellen Shelley of Calgary, Alberta. He married Helen Winnifred Larter in 1934. Henry is buried in the Queen's Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, Calgary, Alberta.
Henry's brother Ralph Thomas Shelley was lost at sea from HMCS VISON 21 Dec 1940. His brother, AB William Henry Shelley, died in the sinking of HMCS WEYBURN on 22 Feb 1943. His brother Robert Shelley also served in the RCNVR.
