A son of John T. and Ellen Shelley of Calgary, Alberta. Husband of Violet Keena (23 Jul 1918, Calgary, AB - 31 May 1993, Delta, BC).
Robert's brother Ralph Thomas Shelley was lost at sea from HMCS VISON 21 Dec 1940. His brother, AB William Henry Shelley, died in the sinking of HMCS WEYBURN on 22 FEb 1943. His brother Henry Alfred Shelley also served in the RCNVR.
