In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BURNS, Steven (Buck) - On August 21, 2017 LT (N) Steven "Buck" Burns at the age of 47, “rolled the dice” for the last time and reached negative hit points after his battle with cancer at the Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa.
His legacy will survive through his wife Laura (Scott); daughter Alexandria; his parents Patricia Burns and Arnold Burns (Rosemarie); In laws John and Barbara Scott; sister in law Sue (Joe) Klawitter and nephews Cody (Rebecca), Wesley and Matthew; his "brother from another mother" extended family Trevor (Lesley) Mercer and their son Kavin.
He was predeceased by his brother "Bill" (1991), grandparents John and Annie Sinclair, and Leo and Winnie Burns.
Steve was an Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy having achieved the rank Lieutenant with a 26 year career as a Marine Systems Engineer. During his Career he sailed all around the world. He served in Somalia and the Gulf War on HMC Ships Preserver, Ville de Quebec, Montreal, Fredericton, Halifax, Goose Bay, and Glace Bay and achieved many awards and honours along the way.
He loved getting together with his friends to golf, play poker. He enjoyed, playing Dungeons and Dragons and Magic with the “Geeks and GWNL” and was a genius with the computer. He found great delight in waking his daughter Alexandria “Alex” in creative ways, her favorite being the puppet shows, and spending time with his “better half” Laura - “Love you forever and always.”
Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday September 8, 2017 in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street Dartmouth. A military funeral service will take place at 10am on Saturday September 9th in the funeral home chapel, Padre Lt. (N) David Jackson, officiating. Reception to follow. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Phoenix Youth Programs or Feed NS.
