Built in Port Glasgow, NS, she was
launched in 1911. Formerly the Department of
Transport Hopper Barge No. 4, she was acquired by the RCN in 1940
and converted to a fuel oil carrier. SUNBEAM was commissioned on 11
Nov 1940, and served as a lighter at Halifax and St. John's
and occasionally as a transport. Paid off on 13 Dec 1945, and
sold into commercial service, she was renamed BIRCHBRANCH in 1949.
Her register was closed in 1968, as she had been broken up.
