HMCS ARLEUX / Gate Vessel 16
Battle Class Trawler
Built at Montreal and commissioned on 05 Jun 1918, ARLEUX saw only brief service before being handed over to the Fisheries Protection Services, though in common with several sisters she remained nominally a naval patrol vessel until 30 Jun 1922. As a fishery patrol vessel she frequently acted as mother ship to the winter haddock-fishing fleet off the east coast. Taken up again by the RCN, she was commissioned 13 Sep 1939, and in 1940 designated Gate Vessel 16 at Halifax. She was sold for commercial use on 15 Feb 1946, and foundered 19 Aug 1948 off White Heady Bay, N.S.
